CRITICISM
Against the word visionary
The word does no descriptive work. It cannot be falsified, it cannot be compared, and it has no content beyond approval.
What it does do is close a question. Once a director is a visionary, the vision is theirs by definition, and asking who designed the thing you are looking at becomes a slightly rude question about implementation.
The test is simple: remove the word from a sentence and see whether the sentence still claims anything. Usually it does not.
